ICT basic skills for all youth in Rwanda

ICT is the backbone of personal development, international collaboration, job creation and economic growth. Without the basic skills youngsters are really left behind.

I am Yvan, member of the ICTalk team with whom I started ICTalk as social enterprise to be able to make work (income) of our dream: ICT basic skill for all youth in all corners of Rwanda. In the video I tell you more about the newest project ICTalk Tour in Rwanda by which we can make our dream reality in 2023-2026.

As the ICTalk team, we have already trained more than 500 young people and teachers in the first years, but also trained the first new ICTalk trainers! Due to the successful results and the well-tested ICTalk concept, we are ready to scale up!

In order to really reach all young people in a short time, in addition to our physical ICT basic training, we have also built our own online E-somo platform where young people can also follow the ICT basic training online, take an exam and receive a certificate.

In addition to the free ICT basic training, we also offer affordable ICT advanced and technology courses on the E-somo platform. So that young people can continue their studies after the basic training and we as an ICTalk team can earn our income. In this way we want to invest all our time in the ICTalk Tour and ICT skills of young people.

To bring ICT to all corners of Rwanda we need help

Our help questions are about 2 topics:

Donation for the ICTalk Tour and advanced modules for the E-somo platform

Help questions to make the dream reality with the ICTalk Tour

With the ICTalk bus we can reach young people in the countryside much better and more efficiently, while we can provide our own accommodation and cooking. The entire ICTalk program can be completed in 5 weeks allowing us to visit 8 districts per year. Rwanda has 30 districts, so in 4 years we finish the great job!

The first 8 districts for 2023

Musanze, Rubavu, Muhanga, Kamonyi, Bugesera, Kirere, Nyamagabe, Rusizi.

Help questions to make work & income from E-somo

In 2021-2022 we built the online E-somo platform ourselves, where young people can follow the basic ICT training including certificate, for free from January 2023. In order to generate income for the ICTalk team, it is important to bring several advanced ICT courses online in 2023. Preferably in Kinyarwanda, with English subtitles, so that all young people can use it.

Want to hear more about E-somo?

E-somo will be a strong tool to provide the same level of skills to all new ICTalk trainers trained during the ICTalk Tour to disseminate the basic ICTalk training themselves in their communities and districts, while being coached and assisted in the ICTalk community.

E-somo wil also be there for low paid and non-governmental institutions and other workers like teachers, local community leaders, young volunteers and many other people helping out local communities.

To make the next steps for E-somo
  • We need help developing online advanced ICT modules: Excel, PowerPoint, Programming, Video making, etc. In Kinyarwanda, with English subtitles.
  • We would love to share ICT courses that are already developed by other trainers on the E-somo platform. So if you made any ICT course in Kinyarwanda, with English subtitles please contact us to discuss whether you would like to become a partner of ICTalk.

Would you like to help us with this? Let us know by registering and contacting us via this website or via this email: info.ictalk@gmail.com.

We greatly appreciate any help.
